June is almost over!

(My mom with 2 of our "adopted" kids...we borrow them from friends every so often for a weekend, and return them tired, happy, and unharmed! :-) )
I cannot believe that it is June 25th already. Where has this year gone? I'm finally joining the world of the bloggers - if, that is, I can remember my log in for this...LOL.

This Friday is my mother's 80TH! birthday! Wow! I will have to post a photo (although she will kill me if she ever sees it). I truly do not think she looks even CLOSE to 80 years old - and certainly does not "act" it - whatever that is. But there are the little old ladies you meet at church who are the image you have in your head of what 80 (or above) looks like, ya know? My mom is not that. Her memory is a little rusty at times - but she is aware of that, and honestly, it could be a side effect of some of her meds! - and she doesn't get around quite as fast as she used to - but she does still get around! She is the pianist at church, a deaconess, the queen of the chocolate chip cookie makers, and the ruling cinnamon bun baker. She prays for her family and friends, uses the internet, email, and even online banking! She reads a phenomenal number of books every year (although has not topped the year - 2002 or 2003, I think, when she read 1 book a day) - but she does read probably 1.5 books every 2 days. She sews doll clothes for little girls the world over (if I have friends who have daughters with the 18" American Girl-type dolls - they now have clothes from my mother!) She walks, tries to eat right, and even went with me to Joliet Il this past weekend. She is an amazing woman - God has blessed me and my sister with an incredible mother!

I'm having a surprise birthday party for her this Saturday at our church. I can say that because my mom won't see this blog at all (if ever) - or at least, not until AFTER the party! I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to get her to the church Saturday afternoon, but I have some ideas. It's going to be a huge blast if we can really pull this off as a surprise. The deaconesses at church have really stepped up to help me get it all together - they're helping with food, set up, etc. AND everyone is pooling money to give my mom - toward a new sewing machine. That's about the only thing she has said that she wishes she could get. Her old Kenmore is over 20 years old, and just needs to be retired. Other than having enough money to pay off her one credit card - a sewing machine was the only thing I could think of as the perfect gift!

I have more to say - but since I'm just starting out, I'm going to try to split my posts by subject for a while...

Now to see if I can figure out to post pics...if any show up in this post, you'll know I managed!

Welcome to the blog world! Great first post! Your mom sounds (and looks) so cute. She sounds like she has some amazing energy going on too. Can't wait to see pics of the party!
